Self help

The idea of this project is really in the title somewhat. 'Self Help' enables the consumer, viewer to be a little cheeky, and actually ask for a piece of work for free. You would think the concept doesn't really exist, but on many times you do get someone who asks for a free piece!! I guess the original idea came from this concept, as i remember giving talks in Norway for the show 'Peters Army', and after a 17 year old was so bold and was watching me do the first of my now on going drawings. She asked for a drawing of her!!! And for perhaps the only time ever I said yes, and drew her from life right then, in my style.
So it does happen! And I was taken aback by the cheek!! And quite impressed also.
So 'Self Help' really is what the title says, for a free portrait of an individual, and to be a part of the newest project.

The studio begins

After alot of thought. The studio is getting ready. After years of working where I could, it's time for my work to be in a real space, and that has to be my studio. Looking all over a local area for one has been difficult. And the closest was and hour away. So with the inclusion of family and commitments, I needed an alternative area. So my garage is the perfect space. It's big, cool, great for sound also. And it's more than separate enough to work in and feel my own time and space!!
So now it begins, the removing of everything! With an inclusion of White wall, grey floor and my trusty mac, who never leaves me. With new projects beginning, such as both 'self help' and 'life space' I need this more than ever before. For more on the two projects please feel free to get in touch @ maowusuwalker@gmail.com or wait for updates to the site @ either http://thecarni.com or michaelandrewwalker.com

The Work is about to change!!

For those who are familier with my work, you will know I work alot on drawings of late. My painting still exists, but have had a huge surge in drawings. But not as a simple hobby, or jotting down random images either.
The images are a development from the very initial works of Peter's Army, first established in 2005, and shown in Bergen Norway.
The theme has developed and grown, as the next stop saw me take some time to gain. Due to my own personal famiy commitments, I took a hiatus of sorts, but still envisaged my works along the way. Having enough, I broke out and began the work again. The first drawings believe it or not were done in 2005, whilst staging the first showing of Peter. In 2009, they continued and I showed a large series of up to 78 drawings, and about 20 books based upon the same imagery. Agin in Bergen Norway, in a differing location.
I have had a great response with the drawings, but on a personal level I wanted, and want more. I attempted to merge both drawing and painting in 2009, and to an extent it worked. But I wasn't happy with the result. I needed more, but didnt know what.
We then developed 'colour theory' basing the drawings through colour, and staged a show in the winter, the beginning of 2010 in Askoy, Norway, entitled 'We look up for guidance'. In a way it worked, as the setting was big enough and bold enough.
However, the drawings stayed strong, but to the point of just becoming 'drawings' and nothing more. In the later part of 2010 we directed a larger show for many artists, using the space to make the best show considering costs, and the environment. Constant is the only change was a good success, and I developed my first installation theme. We used the idea further, and thought of the images to combine with this also. Myself and Mr Frugaard began brainstorming, and we developed the next stage. I can pretty much give Marthin the credit, as Im sure it was his idea. And the next stage begins......And I will get back to this soon

Infatuation

The feel of a new infatuation, the sense of it, the way in which you naturally feel happy. It gives you a glow, and warmth.
The ideal of what you can do is so powerful. But any action has a re-action, a consequence.
Why can we feel like this? A new smell, new sense of thought enables us to be bothered, to take an interest. To look and feel our best becomes prominent also. We remember we are here for a reason other than simple daily duties. To know we can have fun and still remain happy.

Which brings me to my next point: Can infatuation co-exist with your daily life and 'ordinary' repressed thoughts?!
A tough one for sure, I think we try, but often get caught up in moral dilemma's. Most of us then over analyse and question our selves or lives. Causing an issue not needed and resulting in 'real' mess. The ideal becomes this 'real' thing. It confuses it with our 'ordinary' thoughts and happenings. We basically mess things up over an infatuation, or the inability to control it.
This can often happen to those who continue with the 'ordinary' lives, but want the infatuation to be real! It can lead to a real false sense of 'love' or want for such a term. We can act like giddy teens, and not know what to do or where to take this new 'relationship', and can ultimately lead to another moral dilemma of sorts.
What are your experiences relating to this issue? How do you see it?
Its interesting for sure, and pretty positive it affects a lot of us.

Rollin on till next time......
